Question:
I have a 2020 Ford Transit T350 with I have MASTERCRAFT Glacier MSR 235/65R16C 121/119R snow tires. I’m looking for Tire chains but am having trouble determining which work with my van specifically because my my Ford Owners manual says: Do not use self-tensioning snow chains and Only use SAE Class S snow chains or cables of 0.4 in 10 mm or smaller in diameter Why wouldn’t they want me to use self-tension chains? And how can I tell which SAE Class S chains have 10mm clearance or less? Or can I ignore that as long as they are Class S?

Expert Reply:
Normally Class S compatible tire chains require at least 12 mm of clearance so while the clearance you require is Class S not all Class S options would have enough clearance.
The only option we have that would provide you with enough clearance would be the Konig K-Summit # th02230k55 as it does not drape over the inner shoulder of the tire at all.
