Flat Towing a 2003 Subaru Baja with a Demco Base Plate and Roadmaster Tow Bar

Updated 01/11/2021 | Published 01/06/2021

Question:

Hi, Looking to setup our new toad and could use a little help. Its a 2003 subaru baja, Im considering the demco baseplate. Weve had the roadmaster one before which was ok but was sloppy with all the connection points for their quick release and drawbar. We already have a roadmaster stirling towbar. We no longer have the original ends as our last vehicle was a jeep and we used the D ring adapters. So not sure if the demco adapters are bar end replacements or middle man adapters. Could use help here. Lighting recommendations needed, were pulling the car with a bus which is 24v instead of 12, so led would be needed to support that voltage range, maybe some magnetic stickons.... Thanks in advance for your help!

If you are looking to setup a Demco base plate on your 2003 Subaru Baja and connect to a Roadmaster Sterling tow bar, part # RM-576, then there are some things you need.

The Demco base plate for your Baja is part # DM9517170. To connect this to a Roadmaster tow bar, then you need the adapter. Of course, this depends on which Sterling you have. If yours has a serial number up to 14,500 then you need part # DM9523036. If it has a serial number above that, then use part # DM9523062. I've attached review videos for both.

Just as you said, these adapter are merely an in-between for the base plate and the tow bar, so you need to replace the ends that you have misplaced. For the Sterling tow bars, the Replacement Swivel Ear is part # RM-910661.

As for the lighting dilemma, our lighting systems are all 12V systems, so you are going to need a relay or step-down converter in place before you can use one of them.
