Question:
Do I need a special connector to have the lights on a trailer work or will it just plug into the back up light port on a 2003 Mini Cooper?

Helpful Expert Reply:
You will need a 4-way connector on your 2003 Mini Cooper in order to power your trailer lights, and the correct part for that is the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C59236.
This connector is what you will plug your trailer's 4-way into which will allow the trailer's brake lights and turn signals to function.
If you need a hitch for your '03 Mini Cooper as well, the correct fit is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11126.
To tow with this hitch you'll also need the Curt Drawbar # C45521, Pin and Clip # F-4, and a hitch ball which will depend on the size of your trailer's coupler; either 2" Hitch Ball # A-82 or 1-7/8" Hitch Ball # A-80.
