Question:
Currently, I have a Curt s0601u-r1 unit. I recently lost power to the tail light wire, although the left and right turn signals still work and the ground is good. Can this be repaired? If not, what is a suitable replacement?

Sounds like the converter box of the trailer wiring kit you have installed on your 2003 Subaru Baja has developed an internal short and needs to be replaced. For that you'd want the part # HM11143875.
