The Tekonsha P3, part # 90195 that you'd looked at is compatible with trailers with electric AND electric over hydraulic brakes.
Electric over hydraulic brakes use an electric pump that's actuated by an electric over hydraulic compatible brake controller to apply the hydraulic trailer brakes. The P3 has some other nice features like an easy to understand display, easy to use controls, and programmable settings for multiple trailers. These settings are really useful for folks that haul heaver cargo trailers that travel empty to or from a destination. You can set up the controller for a fully loaded trailer, then set it for an empty trailer with the push of a button.
If your tow vehicle is a full sized truck or SUV that includes the factory tow package with the 7-way trailer connection at the rear bumper, there might be a vehicle specific plug and play wiring harness that makes installation super easy. If you'd care to reply with the year, make and model of the vehicle, I'd be happy to look into the availability of that for you.
I've linked to a product demonstration video featuring the # 90195 P3 brake controller.
