Loosen Lippert Slide Topper Tension

Question:

Is there a way to loosen the tension on the topper without removing it. It is so tight it holds the top of the slideout from fully extending.

I reached out to my contact at Lippert to verify the procedure for loosening the tension on your slide topper awning. I have attached a link to the installation guide. On page 6 and step 11 is a description of releasing the awning tension. I have also included a link to a video of the install instructions produced by Lippert.

Keep in mind that there is a torsion spring inside of the roll up tube and much like an oldfashioned pull down household shade - if you let go it will whiz around releasing all tension, so you need to keep a grip on it when working on this. Further, it is highly recommended that you enlist the help of another person on another ladder as it is too much to try to hold on and adjust the tension.
