Yes. Especially when empty, it's likely that there will be air getting through places on the Rhino Rack Ski Carrier # RR576 that might create a whistle while traveling. Adding a wind fairing like the # RRRF4 might help reduce some of the wind noise that you're experiencing, but I would suspect that some of it is coming from between the two arms on the ski carrier so you might just want to remove it when it's not in use.
