Hello, Thule says wider-than-speced WingBar couldinch fit on a given car. I really need to fiit a wide cargo box AND two bikes on my cross bars : Have you tried or heard of 50in Wingbars on a VW sportwagen? Thanks!

The recommended size Thule WingBar Evo Crossbar for a 2017 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen is 47", part # TH711220. That said, you can usually go up to the next size without issue which will be 50", part # TH711320 or part # TH711300. These can both be used with the Evo Raised Rail Feet for Thule Crossbars part # TH710401 to complete the system. This would be the largest size that would work due to the channels underneath.
