Troubleshooting Installation and Operation of Tekonsha Voyager Trailer Brake Controller

Question:

I wired up the brake controller, I also checked the wiring 3 times. After I hooked up brake controller I noticed my brake lights were on I disconnected the red stop light wire and found it is hot, thus powering the brake lights. thoughts

The brake controller wiring should not have any output coming on the red wire. I recommend checking that with a circuit tester like # PTW2993. If there is power output on that red wire, then the internal components are bad and the controller will need replaced. If there is power input to the controller on the red wire, then you are tapped into the hot side of the switch which has constant power and not the cold side of the switch which should only sent power to that red wire when the brake pedal is pressed.

The blue wire of the Tekonsha Voyager Trailer Brake Controller # 39510 should be the only output of power and should only have signal when you press the brake or hit the manual override for emergency braking. The black wire is the power supply to the controller, the white is ground, the red is the brake light signal from the cold side of the brake light switch, and the blue wire is the trailer brake output.
