Question:

I recently had a 2inch hitch installed on my 2020 Mazda CX-5. I am interested in a 4 bike platform rack that can be converted to a 2 bike rack. Can this model be used for 2 bikes without the added platform? Do you have any other recommendations? I also do not wish to keep the hitch attached when not in use. I will be transporting a womens comfort bike and a childs bike. Occasionally 1-2 womens cruisers. Thank you for the assistance,

I have a solution for you, but the Hollywood Racks Destination 4 # HR4000 is only able to be used as a 4 bike rack. This is a great choice for an economically priced 4 bike platform rack, and I really like that you won't need bike adapter bars to carry a wide variety of bikes, but it's not going to give you that 2+2 functionality.

For a platform rack that can be converted between a 2 bike carrier and 4 bike carrier, I recommend going with the Swagman Quad 2+2 # S64FR. This rack can be swapped back and forth between a 2 bike and 4 bike carrier, and I really like that this rack comes with both a locking hitch pin and locks on the hooks to secure the bikes. Since this rack uses hooks to clamp down on the bikes, you're likely going to need bike frame adapter bars # HRBA-PRO to keep the bike secured.
