Sway Control for Double Towing Set Up

Updated 09/11/2020 | Published 09/09/2020

Question:

I tow a 14 foot 2 axle trailer behind my 32 foot 5th wheel with a side by side on it. I do get some rear trailer sway at 70 mph. Will a REESE load equalizer hitch with sway bar on the rear trailer help the sway or am i wasting my time and just tow at 65 mph?

Helpful Expert Reply:

A long double-towing set up like yours is always going to be susceptible to some sway, and while traveling slower will help, so will a form of sway control. Instead of a full-on weight distribution system - which your 5th wheel's hitch receiver likely isn't rated for - I recommend a friction sway control bar.

- Curt Friction Sway Control # 17200

- Reese Sway-Control Bracket for 2" Ball Mounts # RP26003

This will help keep your second trailer in line and reduce the amount of sway you are experiencing.
