The Thule website says this carrier is NOT carbon frame compatible, yet expert Jason S recommends it for a carbon fiber frame. Could you please clarify this?

Good catch! On a second look, this bike rack has a clamp on the frame meaning that the support is on the frame and not the wheels. The Thule Carbon Bike Frame Protector # TH984101 can be purchased separately to protect your frame from warping or cracking with this bike rack.
The Thule Gateway Pro 2-Bike Rack - Trunk Mount - Adjustable Arms # TH88VR or 3 bike # TH78VR are still confirmed by Thule to be compatible with carbon frames due to their HideAway cradles.
