Question:
what is the extra red/white/brown connector for? i understand that the T-connectors fit the civic light socket harness on eaxc side, but cant see the purpose of the third connector, nor see anyplace it would connect

Since your Honda Civic has separate tail lights, meaning one bulb handles the stop and tail and another handles the turn signal, the third connector will plug into the driver side brake light connector and others will plug into the turn signal harnesses.
The connector with the brown, red and white will get plugged inline with the driver side brake light harness. The connector with the yellow and white wire will plug inline with the driver side tail light.
The connector with green and white wire will run to the passenger side turn signal light harness.
