The large spoiler on your 2005 Chevy Cobalt will prohibit the use of a trunk mount bike rack so you will need to use a trailer hitch and hitch mount bike rack. This is actually the most stable way to carry bikes on a vehicle and it keeps the bikes off of the trunk so it will not get damaged.

You can use hitch # 24756. It fits the SS sedan and Coupe including Supercharged models. I have included links to the instructions and a video showing a typical installation.

For a compatible bike rack, I recommend the Swagman Titan, # S63400. It has anti-sway cradles, can tilt down, and has an integrated cable lock. I have linked instructions and a video of this rack for you.
