My Highlander has a 4 pin that works fine for my boat trailer. Now I want to pull a travel trailer with brakes. Will this part to the job?

I have a solution for you, but the Roadmaster # Rm-146 is designed for flat towing, and you're not able to use an adapter because you need additional functions on the trailer connector to power the brakes. In order to tow a trailer with brakes you will need to add a 7 way connector, and you'll also need to add a brake controller; but we do have what you're looking for.

I recommend starting with the # ETBC7L, which will utilize the existing 4 way on your Toyota Highlander and allow you to add a functional 7 way connector on your vehicle. You'll also need a brake controller, to control the brakes; for that I recommend using the Curt Echo Mobile Brake Controllers # C51180. This brake controller is controlled by any smart phone with either Android 4.4 (or newer) or iOS 8.0 (or newer) and is the easiest to install and use option since it simply plugs into the ETBC7L, and then accepts the 7 way plug on your trailer to work your brakes.

I've linked some videos on these parts for you to have a look at and see how they work.
