Trailer Door Latch and Lock that is Installed Horizontally

Can this latch be mounted horizontally so the deadbolt deploys downward? We need to replace a similar latch that is mounted that way, but leaks water into the camper through the mechanism when it rains.

The Global Link RV Entry Door Locking Latch Kit with Keyed Alike Option - Black # 295-000019 is not designed for that use. A better option for that use is the Lippert Components Standard Baggage Door Latch Kit - Black # LC317649 designed for that use. The Global Link RV Baggage Door Slam Latch with Keyed Alike Option - Black - 1-1/2" Thick # 295-000015 which can use a more secure key system.
