When installing Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 36311 on a 2005 Subaru Forester you will sandwich the carbon canister bracket between the hitch and the vehicle frame. You will not put the canister on after installing the hitch. I have included a link to the instructions. Step 5 mentions sandwiching the bracket between hitch and frame. I have also included a link to a video showing a typical installation for you.
