Question:
I want a 2 bike rack and dont have a hitch. Im concerned about strength of the points that the rack attach to the Edge. My Edge, similar to the white one, has a spoiler that is not metal plastic piece bolted in a few places. I noticed the rack clips onto the spoiler and the side straps hook on the the hatch glass. Is it safe and sturdy considering the weight and pull of two bikes and a rack?

The Thule Passage 2 Bike Carrier # TH910XT will be able to transport your bikes safely, but over time there very well could be some damage to your spoiler. This is actually a common footnote for trunk mount racks and is why the manufacturers recommend taking the rack off when not in use. Because of this we try to steer people into using a hitch or roof mount option so that the spoiler will be just fine for years to come.
If you'd like to add a trailer hitch to your 2011 Ford Edge then I recommend using the Draw-Tite # 75686 is you have the Sport model or part # 75992 if you don't have the Sport model simply because it's the only option with a hidden crosstube so you have a nice OEM look with the hitch installed.
Then for a bike rack I recommend the Thule Camber 2 Bike Rack # TH9058 because it's on the lower end of the price spectrum for Thule hitch bike racks but it doesn't sacrifice quality. Please note that if any of your bikes doesn't have a horizontal top tube then you'll need an adapter bar # TH982XT to make sure it sits level and has enough ground clearance.
Attached is an install video for one of the hitches as well as review videos of the bike racks for you to check out.
