Question:
I am looking for a hitch for my 2016 X5 40e non-M - I just want to use it for bike and ski racks. The Eco hitch stealth looks like a nice option aesthetically since you can remove the connector. I have backup sensors and so am wondering which eco hitch to use. A previous post for a 2015 X5 recommended ordering part # 306-X7265 if you dont have reverse sensors or part # EH44FR if you do have reverse sensors. Does it matter which version for the 2016 X5 40e? Also, are there recommendations for which hitch is easier to install? It seems like no matter what, you need to fully remove the fascia/bumper to access the attachment bolts on the frame. And is there any benefit or drawback to a hitch that replaces the impact structure?

The EcoHitch Stealth Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 306-X7265 for models without backup sensors or part # EH44FR for models with backup sensors will fit all models of a 2016 BMW X5 expect for those with the M performance package. In regards to installation, these options both require the removal of the rear bumper but this is what allows for the hidden, sleek install look so it's the best option.

Can you recommend a way to lock the Receiver of the EH44FR to the Hitch? I see that the Receiver is bolted to the Hitch, meaning someone could just unbolt the Receiver and take whatever is attached to the Hitch. Do you know what the diameter of the thru-hole is that connects the Receiver of the EH44FR to the Hitch, and would a Trailer Hitch Lock work in lieu of the bolt?
