I'd recommend the Tekonsha ZCI, wiring harness, part # 119250KIT because it won't require cutting into any of the wires on your vehicle's sophisticated wiring system. I've linked to an install video showing this harness being installed on a 2014 A4. The procedure for your A3 will be different, but the video will give you a general idea of what the install will involve.

For a hitch, I'd recommend the Curt # C11399 that you'd looked at. For a ball mount, use # C45520, a # PC2 hitch pin and a # A-80 for a 1-7/8 or # A-82 for a 2 inch trailer ball.
