Recommended Roof Rack, Basket And Cargo Bag for 2012 Dodge Journey

What after market roof rack and luggage carrier do you recommend for a 2012 dodge journey naked roof. I am leaning towards the rhino roof rack 2500 series. From there I would like to have a roof bag. It needs to be big enough to store luggage for a family of four plus a cooler. Do I also need a mesh cargo box or something like that to put the bag and cooler in?

The Rhino Rack 2500 Series Roof Rack w/ Aero Crossbars, part # DA1375 for silver finish or # DA1375B for black and the vehicle specific clamp kit, part # DK200 would be an excellent choice for your Journey.
You can use a roof mounted cargo bag that would strap directly to the crossbars, but I recommend using a basket like the Thule Canyon XT part # TH859XT that would keep the bag and cooler from sitting directly on your vehicle roof and possibly scratching the paint.
The Rightline Gear Ace 2 Cargo Bag, part # RL100A200 has a 15 cubic foot capacity and measures 44x34 inches. If placed sideways on the basket, approximately 10 inches of room would remain for a cooler. But since bag is soft-sided, so it would conform to your cooler of whatever width.
If you wanted to carry the cooler elsewhere, you could use the PackRight bag directly on your roof without crossbars, with the straps looping through the vehicle, but I would recommend using the Non-Skid Roof Protection Pad, part # RL100650 to keep the bag from moving around.
