Can you unplug the 4 pole to 5 pole adapter when your not using it?

Yes, the Adapter 4-Pole to 5-Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter part # 47515 can be unplugged and stored inside the vehicle while not in use or when only a 4-way is needed. I would however tape up the female bullet style connector which gets spliced into the reverse light circuit on the vehicle.
