will it fit or will I have to cut the bed rails ?

The correct Adarac Pro Series Custom Truck Bed Ladder Rack for a 2017 Ram 1500 with 5-1/2' bed is part # A4000965. In regards to the bed rails, you will no have to do any cutting or drilling even if you have the factory bed rail covers. The ladder rack mounts inside the stake pocket holes.
