The transmission cooler I recommend for a 2001 Ford Ranger is the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit part # D13504 because it's the perfect size that will help cool the vehicle's transmission fluid without blocking the radiator too much.

In regards to installation, we don't have any vehicle specific info for this therefore in order to determine which is the feed and return line so you know which to splice into, you'll need to take the truck around the block and grab each transmission line with your hand to feel which is the cooler of the two as that will be the return line you splice into.
