To fit the rack must the trim be removed to adhere to the fixed points or is it merely cut at the fixed points?

In regards to a 2015 Mazda CX-5, there are two roof rack options depending on the roof type. If you have a roof with raised side rails then I recommend using the Thule WingBar Evo Crossbar System part # TH711420 and part # TH710401. This system attaches with clamps that wrap around the raised side rails. If you have a bare roof then I recommend using the Thule WingBar Evo Crossbar System part # TH711420, part # TH710501, and part # TH145110. This system attaches with clips that clamp onto the door jamb.
There are no fixed points on a 2015 Mazda CX-5.
