How to Re-position Trailer Suspension Shackle Links Once They've Flipped
Updated 03/19/2020 | Published 03/11/2020 >
Question:
We replaced the leaf springs and the shackle plates along with the bolts and bushings. The shackle plates are turned with the top toward the hanger for the equalizer instead looking like a W. The rear plate is also hitting the hanger. How do we get them to rest correctly? This was an issue with the original leaf springs as well.

Expert Reply:
You can get the shackle links to flip back the correct way by jacking up the affected axle using a floor jack which should pop things back into place. Having this repeatedly occur would indicate that either your leaf springs are too long or your equalizer is a bit too long. What equalizer are you currently using? Most of the time there's a number cast into it.
