Question:
Once I follow the instructions and set the controller, do I have to do it every time I hitch up and tow the trailer or will the setting stay?

The Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90885 once setup will not need to be reprogrammed each time you tow so long as you are pulling the same trailer. If you were to pull a different trailer then you would need to go through the setup procedure again for the best performance. If that is the case then the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 is a much better option as you can store settings for up to five different trailers.
Please note, if you have the factory tow package on the 2017 Honda Ridgeline then can use the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers part # 3070-P to install either option without splicing.
