Question:

Thanks for the info and it does make sense to replace the entire housing. However it’s an older model skybox that doesn’t have that style latch. Do you have an alternative for this style? Thanks again for the support.

All Yakima Skyboxes 2009 to current, like # Y95AV, feature SuperLatch security latches on both sides, so if one of your lock cores fell out, and you lost one of the lock cylinder housing components, the only solution is to replace the SuperLatch assemblies on both sides with part # Y8880348. This includes two handles, two pre-installed lock cores and a pair of matching keys.

The lock core is only designed to slide out when a Yakima Control Key # Y8007835 is inserted, which suggests your lock housing wasn't operating like it was supposed to but replacing the SuperLatch assemblies will take care of all of that.

Thank you for the photo; I can now see that is indeed an older model Skybox (pre-2009) for which replacement latches are no longer available, unfortunately. I know it's not what you wanted to hear but since the box isn't serviceable, replacing the entire cargo box is the only way to go in this case. If you click on the link below, you can browse through our selection of cargo boxes from recognized brands like Yakima and Thule, as well as other lesser known but still good quality cargo boxes that are significantly more cost effective, like the Trunx Rooftop Cargo Carrier - 9 cu ft # TRX44FR.
