Can this winch be rigged with a strap instead of a cable?

We have a good solution for you but the Dutton-Lainson StrongArm Electric Winch w/ Remote - 3,000 lbs part # DL25001 does not have the accommodation for a strap. Instead I recommend using the Replacement Synthetic Rope for Bulldog Winch Trailer and ATV/UTV Winches - 1/4" x 50' part # BDW20095 . While this is a longer rope it allows you to cut it to the length you want so you will likely be able to extend its reach. When cutting it be sure to melt the cut end and wrap it back up to prevent fraying. This rope has a 4000 lb. safe working load limit so it will be a great fit with the 3000 lb. limit on the winch. I really like the synthetic over the older cable it is so much nicer when working with it.

You will use the Clevis Hook with Latch, 5/16" part # 6495-301-04 to add to the end of the new rope so you have the connection point you'll need and offers 3900 lb. rating.
