Published 02/13/2020

Question:

I'm looking to dinghy tow/flat tow my 2020 GMC Canyon Denali with four wheels on the ground behind my motorhome. I was wondering if you could give me a list of the best parts to do this? Thanks in advance.

I can definitely make a list of all the best parts so you can flat tow your 2020 GMC Canyon Denali behind your motorhome. The parts you need are:

- Base Plate Kit: Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM-523182-5
- Tow Bar: Roadmaster Nighthawk All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar with LED Lights # RM-676
- Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267
- Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect with Switch # RM-766 (not compatible if Canyon is diesel or has dual batteries)
- Supplemental Braking System: Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251
OR
- If your motorhome has air brakes: Air Force One Supplemental Braking System for Motorhomes with Air Brakes # SM99243

Base plates are vehicle-specific and the Roadmaster are a fit for your 2020 GMC Canyon (please note if your Canyon has adaptive cruise control there are no base plate fits). The accompanying photo shows these exact base plates on a '20 Canyon so you can see that the removable arms means they are virtually unnoticeable when you aren't towing.

The Nighthawk tow bar is the best option because it has long arms which make it easier to maneuver when towing, along with integrated safety cables so you won't have to purchase them separately, saving you an additional expense.

The Flexo-Coil wiring kit is designed to prevent any type of electrical feedback to keep your Canyon's electrical system safe, and both the Stay-IN-Play DUO and Air Force One are strongly recommended because they are one-time installs which will never require any type of removal or reactivation, and give you braking proportional to that of your motorhome. This results in much smoother braking than most systems which send out a pre-set amount of braking power and thus are more rigid.

Keep in mind you may also need a high-low adapter to ensure you are towing level. I have added a link to a help article on how to select the correct high-low adapter as well as a link to our selection of adapters for you to check out. Additionally, I have added links to instruction manuals, video reviews and installations for you to take a look at.
