Question:

I have a sliding TracRac for my 2001 Tacoma with cantilever attachment. i just purchased a 2019 Tacoma and the rail system is not recommended for this year. What is the reason and what modifications have to be made?

We do have a really nice selection of ladder racks available that are confirmed to fit your 2019 Toyota Tacoma, however as you mentioned seeing, the sliding TracRac SR system from Thule is not available for this truck. We have actually checked with Thule in the past about this and they have not had a fit for the Tacoma since the 2004 model year, which is when Toyota changed to a composite bed.

The design and construction of the post-2004 Tacoma beds just aren't suitable for a safe and secure connection for this type of rack. I really can't say what modifications could be done, if any, to allow something like this to work.

Your best option for your new truck will be with a fixed system like the excellent Thule TracRac TracONE Ladder Rack # TH27000XT-XK4EX, which features a strong, lightweight aluminum construction that won't rust over time and a cantilever extension to provide support for your longer loads. The ladder rack itself has an 800 pound weight capacity while the cantilever extension sports a 1,000 pound limit.
