Question:

Looking for an option that will allow me to mount rails and an adjustable TracRac to a pickup with a short bed 5foot - either the GMC Canyon SLE or Toyota Tundra. I would like to be able to have both a soft tonneau cover AND an adjustable rack system on rails. I currently own a 2008 Tundra with both the rails and cover and am looking for a smaller truck that will still allow for both. So far, I have found that only the GMC Canyon SLE extended bed 6 will work, but the TracRac website suggests that the rails can be mounted to a 5foot bed as well.

It sounds like you're going to be swapping trucks from a 2008 Toyota Tundra to a 2017 GMC Canyon and you'd like to use your existing Thule TracRac SR # TH43002XT-610 on your 2017 Canyon as well as add a tonneau cover compatible with this setup. I have exactly the parts you'll need to recreate your old setup on your new truck.

You'll first need to replace the base rails to match your new truck; you'll want to use the Base Rails for Thule TracRac SR # TH21783, which are designed to fit on the 2017 GMC Canyon with the 6ft long bed. These rails install easily on the bed rails of your truck and provide you with the sliding tracks for your TracRac SR. Once you install these, you'll be able to take the frame of your existing rack from the Tundra and transfer it to the Canyon.

Next, you'll need a new tonneau cover that is compatible with both your truck and the TracRac SR, I recommend using the BAK Revolver X2 Hard Tonneau Cover - Roll Up - Aluminum and Vinyl # BAK39125.
