Question:

I pushed the starter button without pushing the brakes. The yellow light on the starter button lights up but still cant up it in neutral. Is there a secret to how to push the button

On vehicles like your 2019 Chevy Sonic that have a push button start the truck to getting the ignition into ACC mode without turning the vehicle on so that the steering wheel is unlocked is to press the start button without having your foot on the brake. That will unlock the steering wheel and also allow you to shift the vehicle into neutral.

I looked up the owners manual of your 2019 Chevy Sonic and found how the procedure they recommend to get your vehicle in the correct gear so it can be flat towed. With key on shift an automatic transmission to P (Park) or a manual transmission into 1 (First) gear and turn the ignition off. To prevent the battery from draining while the vehicle is being towed, remove the DLIS fuse from the instrument panel fuse block. For Keyless Access vehicles, to prevent the battery from draining while the vehicle is being towed, remove the BCM1 and BCM2 fuses from the instrument panel fuse block, and fuse 7 from the engine compartment fuse block. Turn the ignition to ACC/ACCESSORY. Shift the transmission to N (Neutral). Release parking brake.
