Installing A 7-Way Trailer Connector On a 2020 Subaru Outback Wagon For a Brake Controller

Question:

Is there a custom fit 7-way wiring harness for the 2020 Subaru Outback Wagon? I need to install a brake controller but I don't want to do the least amount of wiring possible

I do have a simple option for you but there is not a custom fit 7-way wiring harness for the 2020 Subaru Outback Wagon. The easiest way to get a 7-Way plug and brake controller on the 2020 Subaru Outback Wagon is to use Tekonsha 4-Pole flat trailer connector part # 118467 then convert it to a 7-Way with part # ETBC7L to use Curt Echo Mobile Brake controller part # C51180.

If you do not have a 4-pole flat on the Outback yet, The Tekonsha wiring part # 118467 will plug into the vehicle's factory towing wiring harness located in the rear cargo area. I have attached an installation video for your reference.

Once you have the 4-pole flat installed, The 7-Way upgrade kit part # ETBC7L will install at the rear of the of the Outback and the black wire will need to be extended to the vehicle's battery via the provided circuit breaker. The plug will need to be grounded to a clean bare metal surface of the Outback's frame. Then the 4-pole flat will plug into the pigtail coming off of the 7-way plug. We put this kit together specifically for the Curt Echo part # C51180 because it only requires 12V power to operate so all of the 7-Way connections are not needed which makes it an easy install.

The Curt Echo will plug in line with the new 7-way and the settings are operated via a smart phone device Apple 8.0 and newer or an Android 4.4 and newer. Since the Echo is designed to use your phone for the manual override and other settings there is not a bulky brake controller in the dash that needs to be wired. It is the easiest installation option out there when it comes to brake controllers.
