Question:

Can you confirm whether or not this bike rack TH910XT is compatible with our 2001 Lexus RX-300 SUV? If not, are there any other suggestions for a 2-adult-bike solution with a trunk-mount for this specific vehicle?

The Thule Passage Trunk Mounted 2 Bike Rack, part # TH910XT is indeed a fit for the 2001 Lexus RX300, but the 3 bike model, # TH911XT, or any 3 bike rack is not compatible, as the hatch on the RX300 does not have sufficient strength to support an additional bike.

If you are planning on using the rack frequently, do yourself a favor and check out the Thule OutWay, part # TH45JV. Rather than the 6 strap and buckle attachment system typically found on trunk mounted bike racks, the OutWay uses only 2 rubber that allow the rack to be installed or removed in seconds. It also includes locks to secure both the rack and the bikes to the rack. Many other carriers require you to purchase these separately.

For women's bikes or bikes with sharply angled top tubes or step-through frames, using a frame adapter like part # TH982XT is recommended. The adapter spans the distance between the seat post and the handle bar gooseneck, and provides a level attachment point to the bike rack so the bike has greater ground clearance and is not carried at an angle.
