Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Blue Ox Tow Bar

Published 10/22/2019

Question:

I just purchased a used 2010 Tiffin Allegro bus. The original owner left the Blue Ox tow bar model Aventa LX BX7445 and the RV half of a Airforce one braking system. I have a new 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk and want to buy what is needed to match up to what the RV already has. I am assuming I need a base plate kit. A second vehicle AFI and a tail light wiring kit. Not sure if this is all so I am looking to get someone to guide me so I dont make any mistakes. Thanks

You are right on track! To set your new 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee so that it can be towed behind the Tiffin Allegro you will need a base plate kit (that's compatible with your existing Blue Ox Tow Bar), a lighting solution, the Jeep side of the Air Force One Braking System, and possibly a high-low adapter to keep everything level.

Starting with the base plates the Blue Ox # BX1128 will work perfectly and is directly compatible with your Blue Ox Aventa LX Tow Bar. It's custom-designed for your Jeep Grand Cherokee and it's hidden reinforcements with removable arms maintains a really clean appearance when it's not being towed.

The Blue Ox Aventa Tow Bar does include safety chains but in case the previous owner didn't leave those behind you can use the part # BX88196.

Then for a lighting solution I highly recommend the Roadmaster Diode Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This kit includes everything needed to wire the Jeep so that it accepts the signal lights from the RV during travel and the diodes will prevent any potentially harmful feedback. It also includes a 6-Way connector to that will mount to the Jeep's front bumper along with enough coiled wiring to go from there to the 7-Way on your Tiffin Bus.

For just the towed vehicle portion of the Air Force One Braking System you can use the part # SM99209. This kit includes all the Jeep-side components of the system that will match up to what's already installed on the RV. Just for reference the full system is part # SM99243.

Lastly, you may need to add a high-low adapter to stay within the "Safety Zone" (3" above or below level) with the tow bar. I have attached a great article that explains how to choose the best one for your setup along with a link that will take you to our available selection.

I have also attached a few installation videos on the products mentioned that you can follow along with.
