Question:
Hi there, sorry to ask this but unfortunately there is so much conflicting advice that my head is spinning! I think that the green flashing power light is okay because I connected the charger and opted for recon mode as the battery although new had been left for about eight weeks and inevitably the car a 2003 E class estate wouldnt start. Should I have opted for Normal mode first? If so can I start again?

You're correct that the green flashing power light on the CTEK MULTI US 7002 # CTEK56353 is normal- the green power indicator light should be continually flashing during the reconditioning or charging process. If it is not flashing then the charger is not recognizing the battery. This could be due to an bad connection or a completely dead battery.
Normally the reconditioning cycle occurs at the beginning of the cycle, so it still should have provided a full charge on this battery. If it did not charge after this recon cycle was run, I recommend restarting the charge in normal charging mode. Restarting the process won't harm the battery and it should be noted that "recon" mode is actually meant for battery reconditioning- which is removing the sulphate buildup from the battery and helping extend the life.
If you're still having issues with the battery not gaining a charge after running it through a full normal charge cycle, let me know and I can give you a few other things to check out.
