How To Gain Traction In Snow With ST225/75R15 Goodyear Tires

Can these tires be modified any way for additional traction on a trailer? If it snows I will put on chains but would like additional traction. Can these tires be siped for additional traction?

I do not recommend siping or cutting thin slits across the surface of the The Goodyear trailer tires like part # 724857519 because it could lead to a blow out eventually. Actually Goodyear designed the trailer tread with broken up ribs (compared to long continuous ribs) that let water escape to improve traction so you don't really need to modify the tread. I have attached a photo for your reference. However, the only other way to gain traction with the trailer tires is to add snow chains to them.

The best tire chain option for the ST225/75R15 trailer tires is Konig Self-Tensioning, Low-Pro Snow Tire Chains part # TH04115255 because of their diamond pattern and convenient installation. The diamond pattern will give you more coverage and traction the the ladder pattern chains. The installation is as simple as draping the chain over the tire and pressing down the tension system with your foot. This will make putting the chains on your trailer much more convenient when you eliminate the need to get on the snowy ground to tighten the chains around the tire. I have attached an installation video that shows you how easy it is.

Another great more cost effective option is the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - Square Link part # TC1555 which is also a very installation. I have installed these before and the colored cables do make it much easier. There is also an integrated tensioner with this chain as well.
