Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch Setup for a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Question:

I have a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. It does NOT have the fifth wheel prep package. What hitch and rails do I need to tow a fifth wheel camper that will weight 13000 LBS ?

I have two options for your 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, a system that uses above bed base rails like you asked for and a system that uses an under bed mounting system. The benefit of the under bed mounting system is that you will have full truck bed access with the hitch removed.

If you want to use above bed base rails then I recommend the B&W Custom Installation Kit with Base Rails part # BWRVK2506 which are a custom fit that will not require any drilling in the frame. I then recommend you use the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # BWRVK3255. The B&W Patriot has 3/4" thick locking jaws which form a tight grip on the kingpin and make for a really smooth ride. The B&W Patriot also has a cam action handle which allows you to uncouple on uneven ground.

If you want to use an under bed mounting system then I recommend the B&W Custom Underbed Installation Kit part # BWGNRK1016-5W which is also a custom fit that will not require any drilling into the frame. I then recommend you use the B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # BWRVK3500-5W. The B&W Companion has 1" thick locking jaws that also form a tight grip on the kingpin and make for a really smooth ride. The B&W Companion has a cam action handle as well so you can uncouple on uneven ground.
