Mounting Orientation of Tuson Electronic Sway Control System
Published 08/29/2019 >
Question:
I’m considering purchasing the TSC to help reduce periodic sway with my 97 Airstream “Squarestream” fifth wheel. I’ve tried all I can do to eliminate periodic sway, including getting a much larger truck AND tweaking the hitch location along with all the usual weight monitoring and shifting suggestions. My problem appears to be that the axles on this trailer were mounted too far forward, I presume to make this trailer and it’s pin weight more compatible with light duty truck payload ratings for its vintage. Try as I might, I’m unable to get the pin weight percentage much over 15, and to do that, I need to do things I’m uncomfortable with, such as traveling cross country with 80 gallons of fresh water. My MDT is more than capable of handling periodic sway until the event is over, but I’d prefer to have a system like the TSC to help stay ahead of these events. My question is, the instructions are clear that the unit needs mounted on a rigid vertical surface, 5-10’ behind the hitch pivot, but is unclear about forward/rearward orientation. Does this orientation matter, and if so, does the label face forward or rearward? Thanks!

The label side of the Tuson Electronic Sway Control System for Electric Trailer Brakes # 335TSC-1000 needs to face forward and be in a vertical orientation perfectly centered on the trailer 5-10 feet back from the center of the king pin like what you see in the picture I attached.
That said, for the type of sway you are experiencing your best solution it so move your axles further back on your trailer.
