Is Replacement for Thule Dual Force Strut on Roof Cargo Box

Updated 09/19/2024 | Published 08/17/2019

Question:

Is there a replacement ball to attach the strut TH14933 to ? The previous owner drilled out the rivets and removed the mounts.

I reached out to my contact at Thule who said that part has been discontinued. Since there isn't a way to repair your current cargo box the only other solution is to purchase a different cargo box so you can keep your cargo dry and enough room in your vehicle for your application.

If you like the Thule name and are in the market for a cost-effective option then I recommend the Sidekick # TH78GC. This is their economy option which uses the older style U-Bolts for mounting and it is smaller at 8 cu ft. As long as your crossbar spread (measurement from center of front to back crossbars) is within 23-5/8" - 28" then this will fit.

The next step up with the 14 cu ft Pulse # TH614 which has more of an aerodynamic design and uses the Easy-Grip mounting clamps for a tool-free installation and is compatible with a crossbar spread of 23-5/8" - 33-3/8".

I have attached review videos for both options that you can check out.

In your reply to Peter you stated "so you can keep your cargo dry" and then recommended a TH614. We just installed a th614 and haven't even used it yet but just checked it a day after a rain storm and it was wet inside. The cargo straps were the only thing inside; they are soaked as is the strap to pull the cover shut. Any cargo would not have remained dry. Do we have a flawed box?

@AdaL Hopefully not. Was the box on top of your vehicle during the rainstorm? If you were in a really heavy rainstorm with lots of wind then that would explain how water got into the box, but if it was a light rain and your vehicle was stationary then that could be a problem. Do you know where the leak is at?
