Is a 2004 Prodigy brake controller compatible with a 2017 Wildcat fifth wheel? All checks out but issues exist. Do I need a new controller?

Brake controllers aren't vehicle or trailer specific for the most part. The only thing that could cause a problem would be if you have the original Prodigy with the red LED display and your fifth wheel has an electric over hydraulic braking system.
The Prodigy P2 controller, part # 90885 which has a blue LED display IS compatible with electric over hydraulic brakes or straight electric drum brakes.
If you do have the old Prodigy model and you need to upgrade, brake controllers have come a looong way in the last 15 years. Our two best sellers are the Curt Echo # C51180 Wireless controller that can be controlled by an app on your smart phone or the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite # RED44FR. The unit installs under the dash, out of the way with a small control knob that can be mounted somewhere within easy reach of the driver. Both choices eliminate the need to hang the old knee knocker under your tow vehicle's dash.
