Transmission Cooler Recommendation for 2012 Chevy Tahoe

Updated 08/06/2019 | Published 08/05/2019

Question:

I would like to add a bigger or an extra transmission cooler to my 2012 Tahoe. It currently has a stock auxiliary cooler but the transmission temps sometimes reach 220 when towing a travel trailer. Is there a larger direct replacement unit that would connect to the current GM lines? Or, could I add a second cooler in line to the stock auxiliary unit? Do you think adding a fan to the current cooler would help? The transmission temps get the highest in city traffic.

Best option is to go with a supplemental cooler installed after your factory cooler as this will maximize the cooling of the fluid. For that your best option is the Derale part # D13504 which is a very efficient and larger cooler that will get your transmission fluid temperatures down into a range that will maximize the life of it.

Adding a fan would not be needed as the cooler alone will make a big enough difference.
