Updated 07/31/2019 | Published 07/30/2019 >
Question:
What is the black box on the back of my Atwood GCH6A-10E S? And why would whatever is inside be burning a hole in the black plastic box? Seems to only be happening when Im using electric to heat the water. no issues using propane. Thanks!

The black box on the back of the Atwood Water Heater GCH6A-10E is the control panel and it sounds like the circuit board is bad. You can replace the control panel with part # AT91367 and wiring harness part # AT93312. I would not continue to use it on electric if it is burning a hole through the plastic because it sounds like it is short circuiting and could be a fire hazard.
