Compatibility of Atwood RV Gas and Electric Water Heater with 12V Battery

Updated 06/12/2019 | Published 06/11/2019

Question:

The AT94022 water heater indicates it has gas and electric capability. It also says it uses 110 volts. Does this mean I need 110 v to use gas in order to trigger the DSI? Or can I use 12 volt for the DSI and use only gas for heating?

The Atwood RV Water Heater - Gas and Electric - Automatic Pilot - 120 Volt - 10,000 Btu - 10 Gal Tank # AT94022 requires 120V for both the direct spark ignition and the heating element with thermostat. It will not run on 12V power directly, so you will either need shore power or a power inverter for your 12V battery to give you the 120V output.

If you need the power inverter it needs to be capable of 1400 watts or more like # 34279950 or # 34279458 to operate if you don't already have one in your RV.
