Tongue Weight and Towing Capacity of Draw-Tite Class I Receiver Part # 24794

Updated 02/06/2012 | Published 02/01/2012

Question:

I have seen several hitches like this one but they only claim a 100 lb. tongue wt/1000 lb. trailer weight. Yall sure this hitch can take 200/2000?

The folks at Draw-Tite assure me that the Class I receiver you mention, part # 24794 is rated at 200 lb tongue weight/ 2000 lbs towing. This has been confirmed through extensive testing. You will want to check your owners manual to determine the actual towing capacity of the vehicle, and abide by whichever figure is lower.

If you were planning on using the hitch for towing a small utility trailer, you might also need the following:

A ball mount
Wiring harness with 4-pole trailer connector, part # 118470
1-7/8 inch trailer ball, part # 19256
2 inch trailer ball, part # 19258
Locking hitch pin, part # e98879

If you were not planning on using the receiver for towing, but rather as an attachment point for a bike rack or other accessory, I would recommend the Draw-Tite Class I receiver, part # 24794. This hitch is a bit less expensive, because the ball mount is not included. When choosing a bike rack, make sure you choose one designed for a Class I receiver (see provided link).
