Will Installing a Transmission Cooler On a 2017 Toyota Tacoma Void the Warranty

Updated 06/06/2019 | Published 06/05/2019

Question:

I have a 2017 Tacoma off-road 4x4 V6 without a towing package. The tow package makes the difference in the ability to tow 3500 Vs 6800 pounds the transmission cooler is the the defining part. I am concerned that the adding of an aftermarket cooler will void my warranty? If not what cooler do you suggest?

The actual installation of a transmission cooler will not void the factory warranty on your 2017 Toyota Tacoma. The warranty would only be void if there was an error during installation or use that then caused the transmission to fail. This is mentioned in the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act (P.L. 93-637) which I recommend you look into.

That said, installing a transmission cooler on your 2017 Toyota Tacoma will work to improve the transmission's longevity and performance but it would not increase your towing capacity in the eyes of the manufacturer. This will remain unchanged for the life of the vehicle in their eyes.

For a transmission cooler, I recommend the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit part # D13504 which will provide plenty of cooling capacity for your Tacoma's transmission. It also comes with everything that you will need.
