Check out this photo. I have been wrestling with this problem for 20 years. And with your help, and this great product, you have really made my life a little easier.

The Stabil-Step Stabilizer Jack for Step Assembly # JSS-4 that you referenced would work well for the application you mentioned. It's adjustable in height from 4-3/4" to 7-3/4" and was designed for stabilizing steps so it would do a great job to stabilize your AC unit that sits 5-1/2 inches above the sill.
