Question:

I have a 2006 ford F-150, and a jayco jayfeather 197, GWT 4750,Dry Hitch weight is 455, What would you reccomend for a weight distribution system, and would you recomend sway control?

When choosing a weight distribution system, you will want to calculate the tongue weight of the trailer when it is loaded and ready to tow. Then you have to add in the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle to the tongue weight of the trailer.

Once you have the total tongue weight calculated, you will want to choose a system that has a tongue weight capacity range that puts your calculated total right in the middle of the range.

For example, if the loaded weight of the trailer is 500 pounds and you are carrying 100 pounds of gear behind he rear axle in your Ford F-150, that would make the tongue weight 600 pounds. In this scenario I recommend a system rated for 400 to 800 pounds tongue weight like # RP66541.

This system comes with the shank so you will just need a properly sized ball such as # A-90 for a 2 inch diameter, or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch diameter.

This system does not come with sway control but I do recommend it. However, with this system, you can try it out without the sway control and if you decide you want it, you can add it later using # RP26002 for dual cam sway control.
