Question:
I put a set of 160 springs on a featherlite enclosed trailer rear ramp door I just purchased. The rear door is 6ft high and 7.5ft wide. I have adjusted torsion springs many times, but on this set up the door comes half way down and then I have to sit on it to get it down to the ground. If I reduce the tension so that the door comes all the way down, then as it goes back up the cables unspool as there is not enough tension to keep them tight. Am I correct in assuming the springs are to heavy duty?

Expert Reply:
Yes, it sounds like your springs are too heavy duty which is making them nearly impossible to find the "sweet spot".
Your current spring has a 160 lb capacity which for a lighter style of ramp spring we have the part # ERS120D81 that has a capacity of 120 lbs and would give you the ability to find the sweet spot in terms of ramp tension.
